The music in each of Balbir Singh's works is devised and developed in tandem with the dance. In Balbir Singh Dance Company performances you can expect to see a range of musical instruments from classical eastern to contemporary western sounds all performed live.
Live music is integral to the developing choreography which explores the musical side of Kathak as an art form, challenging the musicians and the composition of the music with the aim of creating a musical dancer, an area of training often overlooked. During the process the dancers’ movement inspires and feeds the composition moving it to sound scapes and the abstract. At some point during the making the dance and the music will augment and at this point the piece will be fixed.
