A variety of options are available, individually tailored to suit the needs and requirements of your group.
Workshops and residencies are relevant to all levels, from infant to HE. A culturally enriching experience, creativity lies at the heart of all workshops that also contribute to improving pupil’s skills, attainment and engagement.
Content is adaptable and versatile, usually focused on one or more of:
- Kathak – technique, rhythm, musicality, expressive and storytelling dance through stories of Krishna, Rama and Sita, and depicting nature and animals
- Repertoire – linked to performance work covering an extensive range of themes and collaborations with sport, science and other artforms
- Curriculum-based – exploring specific themes or issues through creativity
- Collaborations – working with a musician, visual artist or storyteller, alongside our experienced dance artists
Typical workshops, dependent on age, ability and timetabling, can range from 30 minutes, half or full day sessions, whole school taster days or 3-5 day residencies. Activity is designed and delivered by BSDC’s Creative Learning Officer, alongside our experienced dance artists, supported by a team of specialist, regular collaborators.
To facilitate longer-lasting impact and further in-depth study, Resource Packs are provided which include: warm up and cool down exercises, creative tasks, schemes of work and links to visual art and music stimuli.
“Sessions were broken up into sections to keep the students fully engaged and excited. The wide-ranging age range and ability, although quite a difficult job, was catered for well. [The Creative Learning Officer] was wonderful with the students – patient and enthusiastic.” Miss Clapham, Macmillan Academy, 4 day residency
