Balbir’s vision

Balbir’s vision

Balbir Singh is a visionary artist, born in Bradford and based in Leeds, who works locally, regionally and internationally.

He has created an artistically adventurous dance company that reflects the diversity of contemporary Britain.

Balbir leads the company into ever more challenging terrain, the many strands of the work defying categorisation.

Balbir – and his company – are known for their willingess to take risks, get involved in unlikely collaborations and engage with a wide range of artistic disciplines.

With this approach, and under the keen guidance of Balbir’s singular vision, the company works in communities beyond the traditional dance world and, in the process, is growing new audiences.

“The work celebrates the human condition. It helps me make sense of the world. Being blessed with this gift of being a vessel for the art-form, it is my privilege to share this with audiences. There is no room for complacency or self congratulation. It is always about making new work that faces the unknown.”

Though trained in contemporary dance, Balbir’s vision is not that of a choreographer, but of an artist, in the broadest sense:

“I start by questioning how could this concept work and be brought to life. I go into it knowing it won’t be easy – and this in itself tells me it will be worth doing. Because with this comes learning and growth.”

“This is the beauty of being an artist: constantly growing through experience. It appears to be destiny that brings new collaborators and constantly allows new ideas to pop into my imagination.”

Welcome to the bold, strategic, creative and imaginative world inspired and led by Balbir Singh . . .
