It will be a while before we know the full extent of the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic on children and young people. Meanwhile, we wanted to help out where we could. It was a joy to be part of an inspiring programme to bring creative activities and art materials into children’s homes this summer. IVE, the Bridge organisation for children and young people in Yorkshire and the Humber, came up with a plan to reach local children during the long lockdown. This project ‘Bags of Creativity’ put materials and creative activities into children’s hands. We were tasked with coming up with solo activities to fit onto one A5 postcard and assuming the children would only use the materials in the bag.
We chose to make cards for the 7-11 age group and the bags contained art materials, glue, scissors, string, pipe cleaners and a mirror.
Our cultural learning manager Kim worked with the team and with illustrator Jordan Uwins to realise the ideas.
