Russian-born Olga Maloney grew up in Moscow, one of the world’s great skating and ballet centres. After graduating at Moscow State University, Olga worked in the USSR’s Ministry of Sports from 1981. In 1987 she became Tour Manager for Torvill & Dean and the Russia All Stars, accompanying them on their international tours. Later, Olga worked as Tour Director for the ‘All Stars’ in shows including Sleeping Beauty on Ice and Beauty and the Beast on Ice with David Essex.
In 1998 Olga became Artistic Director of Billingham International Folklore Festival of World Dance (BIFF). As a result of her work at Billingham Olga was elected as a Council member of CIOFF (International Council of Folklore Festivals and Folklore Arts). Since 2013 Olga has been the International Council’s Secretary General.
Olga has worked with Balbir Singh on Peacock Lake (which premiered at Billingham Festival in 2016), has supported the developing creative collaboration between Balbir and figure skater Gary Beacom, and was instrumental in initiating the recent collaboration between Balbir Singh and Absolutely Legless Irish dance troupe which led to their highly successful international performance of United Folk: Stories of Love Loss and Hope in United Arab Emirates in 2019.
