Nurturing and guiding – a holistic approach
BSDC’s Resilient Dancer Programme is an artist development scheme, designed for dancers from all corners of England, of all ages and from many different core disciplines, who seek to maintain and expand their practice.
This can be through individual conversations and guidance with Balbir, whole day worksops exchanging experiences practically and analytically or carefully guided work with the company introducing them to kinds of work they may not be familiar with, like working in the health sector or leading educational workshops.
As well as the more obvious areas such as dancer technical skills development, expression, performance skills for different settings or audience relationships, and art form collaboration, the programme also supports dancers in a holistic way, encompassing mental health, wellbeing, and self care.
The programme can engage with dancers at all stages of their career: from profile-raising and confidence building for younger performers, through to navigating care responsibilities and supporting older artists to stay within the field.
“There are different entry points to the activity I do, varied journeys of travel, and a flexibility around exit and re-entry. I bring all of my enthusiasm and imagination into the programme and I hope that this allows dancers passing through it to grow and be enriched.” Balbir Singh
Trauma Informed Practice training session: Balbir Singh, Miranda Arieh, Natalie Tharraleos and Mansi Dabral
